Our editorial team
Who writes on tb-outdoor.com
The tb1648.com editorial team brings together the internal editorial staff of Maison TB-Outdoor and the technical expertise of our industrial subsidiary, Générale de Découpage (GDD), based in Thiers. The content you read here is not written by anonymous contractors: every article is written and then reviewed by people directly involved in the design, manufacturing, and selection of our products.
Our editorial guarantor is Stéphane Guillaumont, President of GDD. In this capacity, he ensures consistency between the content published on this site and the reality of our industrial expertise. On strategic topics (vision, heritage, official stances), he signs the articles directly; on other subjects, he validates the technical accuracy beforehand.
Our legitimacy
TB is one of the oldest French cutlery houses still in operation. Our founding date, engraved in the brand's name, dates back to 1648 — that is over three and a half centuries of passing down the trade in Thiers, the historic capital of cutlery in France.
We are members of the Henokiens, an international association exclusively bringing together bicentenary family businesses that have maintained the continuity of their operations and ownership. This membership is one of the most demanding markers of authenticity in our sector — fewer than fifty companies worldwide are listed.
Our industrial subsidiary GDD is certified ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management). It also holds the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV - Living Heritage Company) label, awarded by the French State to companies possessing rare, recognized know-how that has been passed down through multiple generations.
How we work
Our editorial process is based on three unwavering principles.
No unsubstantiated claims. The technical characteristics mentioned in our content — the HRC hardness of a blade, the exact nature of a steel, the composition of a handle, the duration and scope of a warranty — correspond to verifiable data provided by our GDD technical management. If we are not certain about a piece of information, we do not write it.
Internal validation before publication. Topics with a technical or strategic dimension are reviewed by the management team. Educational content is validated by internal technical sources — the GDD workshop for manufacturing and steel questions, and the product team for usage and tableware questions.
Our topics
We cover four areas:
- Tactical and military knives — folding, fixed blades, from EDC pocket knives to armed forces approved models;
- Outdoor and survival equipment — gear selection, usage in degraded conditions, field maintenance;
- French Army knives — history, specifications, evolution of the Bivouac®, Baroudeur®, and C.A.C.® models;
- Thiers cutlery know-how — technical steels (Nitrox®, MOX®), manufacturing processes, tradition and innovation.
Our angle is not that of a reseller: we write from the perspective of our actual production chain, from raw steel to finished product, and from thirty years of collaboration with the French armed forces.
